Why might it be beneficial for a prokaryote to have the ability to regulate expression of particular genes, rather than just express all genes all the time?

    It allows the cell to adjust a metabolic activity to environmental conditions. That enables the cell to save a lot of energy as transcription and translation of genes is very energetically costly
