Your answer is true, it is called jaundice. The yellow discoloration is caused by the buildup of bilirubin which has yellow color too. The yellow discoloration could appear in the sclera, mucose membrane and the skin. The liver is the organ that responsible for the "breakdown" of bilirubin so it is probably damaged in this patient.
