Sugar beet is one of the most popular example of Beta vulgaris. Carbon atoms are stored in the roots of the crop in the form of complex sugars. These roots are harvested by humans, processed, and consumed. The other parts of the plant, such as the leaves or the stalk are also made up or carbon atoms in the form of cellulose. Dead leaves and stalks that fall into the ground decay and decomposel into forms of carbon containing compounds.
