What is the name for the theory that combines our knowledge about continental movement overtime with the movement of continental plates and seafloor spreading?

My answer will be the plate tectonic theory that explains a variety of geological features and events and that has to do with, among others, the expansion of the ocean floor.

Explanation: The basic principle of plate tectonic is that lithosphere exists as a separate entity, and different tectonic plates rides on the fluid like asthenosphere. It describes the large scale motion of the seven bigger plates and of several smaller plates of earth's lithosphere. It is based on the concept of continental drift.
