How many chemical bonds can each carbon atom form?

    It has four valence electrons, which it can achieve a full outer energy level which forms four covalent bonds. When its bonds only with hydrogen, it forms compounds which is called hydrocarbons. Carbon can be form in single, double, or triple covalent bonds with other carbon atoms.
