    In binary fission, when one atom is split, the neutrons produced split more atoms and the more atoms are split, the more neutrons are produced that split more atoms. In bacteria reproduction one (1) bacteria vegetatively reproduces into two (2) bacteria and the two reproduce into four (4) and the four into eight (8) and etcetera.
