The cyanide disrupts the functioning of the cell mainly by poisoning the mitochondrial electron transport chain. It binds to the A3 portion of the of cytochrome oxidase also known as the complex IV. This prevents the use of oxygen and the body will be unable to produce energy in the ATP leading to cell death.
