The type of inheritance exhibited by this trait in the male goat follows the autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance meaning the for the trait to be expressed, it has to be the dominant allele form on the X chromosome. In the females, this trait follows the autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance such that for a female goat to be bearded, the trait must be inherited as a homozygous recessive trait, while an heterozygous or a homozygous dominant female will be beardless.
