    Mitochondria are the power house of cells and serve in production of energy in form of ATP through oxidative phosphorylation. Brain cells serve in interpretation of sensory information and motor output through conduction of nerve impulses. Since these cells are rich in mitochondria, the brain cells appear to need large amount of energy for conduction of nerve impulses.
