The water just below the sea ice is saltier and more dense than the water below. Because it is more dense, it sinks. The cold, salty water sinks to form an ocean current that moves deep underwater toward the equator.

I think the ocean water tends to be less saltier when the water is warm because in science it's faster to dissolve salt in warm water than in cold water. With that being said when it's warm the salt is being dissolve!
