Sequential events that lead to formation of daughter cells from existing parent cell are referred to as cell cycle.
Explanation:
The cell cycle includes interphase, M phase, and cytokinesis. The cells in interphase prepare for M phase by duplicating their content. The M phase is the phase of nuclear division and forms splits the nucleus of the parent cell into two or four daughter nuclei, depending upon the type of the cell division.
This is followed by a division of the cytoplasm of the parent cell to form the daughter cells. Hence, cell cycle refers to the cyclic events that lead to the splitting of parent cells into daughter cells.
