Most of the Lorax is a story of the past. The Once-ler tells the story of what used to be. The entire ecosystem was ruined by human greed, and it is evident in the ending. After destroying all of the Truffula Trees, there is nothing left. It is important to preserve natural resources and ecosystems.

Trees are as necessary as the land, the air and water on earth for continual sustainability of our environment. Reasons we should protect our trees, and preserve our forests: Trees attract rain. Rain ensures continued food production in the society.
