Ras is a family of related protein. All Ras protein members belong to class of protein known as small GTpase. The Ras proteins H-ras, K-ras, N-ras participates in the Ras-Raf-MAPK pathway, involved in critical life processes of cells. Mitogen-activated protein kinase cascade is one of the pathway activated by Ras that transmits signals downstream that basically results in transcription of genes involved in growth and division. Another activated signaling pathway is P13K/AKT/mTOR pathway. It stimulates cellular growth and protein synthesis, and inhibits apoptosis.
