Why does recombination between linked genes continue to occur? Why does recombination between linked genes continue to occur? The forces on the cell during meiosis II always result in recombination. Without recombination there would be an insufficient number of gametes. Recombination must occur or genes will not assort independently. Recombination is a requirement for independent assortment. New allele combinations are acted upon by natural selection.

    recombination between linked genes continues because genes must combine with new ones though this does result in genetic disorders especially in cases that run in the family
