Innate immunity is the first line of defense against infectious and pathogenic agents that surround us, and this in all multicellular organisms. It is put into play immediately and is functional 4 days (96 hours). It is composed by:

*Constitutive modules such as the skin-mucous barrier (integumentary system).

*Induced modules such as phagocytosis and inflammatory response, which requires phagocytic cells (like macrophages) and cytokines.

The adaptive immune response is the second line of defense against infectious agents and exists only in vertebrates. It is established after about 4 days and is characterized by the participation of lymphocytes that have a major role. There are two types of lymphocytes, B lymphocytes (LB) (that secretes antibodies) and T lymphocytes (LT).
