    Robert Hooke

    Explanation:

Robert Hooke coined the word "cell" while observing the characteristics of the cork under his microscope. He called it as such because it reminded him of the small rooms that monks used which are called cellula (which is Latin, for small room). He was the first to discover the cell in 1665 but they were dead plant cells. Anton van Leeuwenhoek on the other hand, was the first to observe live cells.
