How are the functions of a carbohydrate and a lipid similar? Both lower the activation energy of reactions. Both dissolve nutrients in the digestive system. Both are a source of energy. Both are replicated during meiosis.

    Carbohydrates and lipids are both sources of energy. The breaking of carbon and hydrogen bonds on carbohydrates and lipids release energy for use by the cells.
