This created a hypotonic environemnt in the patient's bloodstream. The cells were diffused in water until it burst open. The pateints blood cells swelled and as a result burst with water due to the high osmotic pressure caused by the distilled water. Jan 8, 2016

    Answer & explanation:

Distilled water cannot be inserted into the bloodstream as it is a pure water (H₂O) compound without the addition of any minerals or salt in its composition.

If distilled water is injected into a patient, it may cause changes in the blood, turning the enviroment hypotonic, facilitating the passage of water and removing nutrients, salts and ions, as well as disrupting red blood cells (hemolysis) due to excess water, or even modify the pH of the blood, leading to several complications.
