How does the sodium potassium pump work in our cells?

    In human cells, the hydrolysis of ATP to form energy needed by the cell is the main utilizer of the Sodium potassium pump. The process involves the movement of Sodium ions and potassium ions across the cell membrane through active transport mechanism. Here, an enzyme called Na+/K + - AT phase is utilised to maintain a larger excess of Na+ions outside the cell and a corresponding large excess of K+ions on the inside.

    This sodium potassium pump is important because it contribute to action potential produced by nerve cells.
