A coral reef is an ecosystem where different abiotic (i. e., water, sunlight, temperature, salt, waves, etc.) and biotic (i. e., aquatic plants, shrimps, fish, corals, etc.) factors interact together to maintain the homeostasis of the system.

A simulation model is also defined as a computer-based experiment where each component of the system contributes to the calculation of the impacts caused by the interaction of uncertain inputs.
