    Henry Louis Gehrig was an American famous baseball first baseman who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); a progressive incurable nervous system disease that destroys nerve cells and muscles and causes disability. Henry Louis Gehrig died from the disease at age 38, and the disease is now popularly referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease".
