Chemical weathering refers to the weakening, breaking down and subsequent disintegration of rock due to different chemical reactions and alters their constituent minerals. Examples are:
Carbonation Hydrolysis Oxidation
To focus on one of the examples, hydrolysis is the breakdown of a substance when it is combined with water. There is a chemical reaction between the minerals found in a rock and water. When it rains, water seeps down into the ground and comes in contact with granite rocks which reacts with the water. Then it is chemically altered to form clay minerals, which weaken the rock.
This process occure faster at higher temperature, so warm, damp climates are best. And most notably, hydrolysis and also oxidation are the first stage in the production of soils.
