    Water (H₂O) is a polar molecule due to the electronegativity differential between the bonds between hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O) atoms in water. In other words, water is polar because oxygen (which is much more electronegative) does not share all electrons with hydrogen, leaving a pair of unpaired electrons.
