The tectonic plate movement is powered by the convection currents of the mantle. The directions are as a result of the descending cooler upper mantle and, concomitantly, the ascending of the hooter lower mantle rocks. These currents drag the lithosphere above them through frictional drag. These currents have moved plates across latitudes and latitudes changing their time's zomes and also their climate over millions of years.
