Water table in upper surface of an areas of water saturation in the rocks within the earth crust. This requires that the rock (called an aquifer) is permeable so that water can accumulate within its pores. In elevated areas, such as hills and mountains, this groundwater can find an outlet such as a spring. The groundwater nonetheless remains because it is replenished by precipitation. When there is drought, water table lowers considerably and one is required to dig deeper to reach the water table.
