The answer is; A pioneer species in primary succession

Pioneer species are those that colonize a new environment (such as new rocks from a volcanic activity) in primary succession. These plants weather the rocks and contribute to soil formation enabling higher plants to take over in the ecological succession until a climax community has been reached.

In secondary succession, the environment is not necessarily new but was disturbed/decimated by events such as a wildfire.
