In tomatoes, red fruit (R) is dominant over yellow fruit (r). A plant that is homozygous for red fruit is crossed with a plant that has yellow fruit. What will be the genotype and phenotype of the offspring?

    Genotype = 4Rr or 100% Rr

    Phenotype = All (100%) red fruit

    Explanation:

    Red fruit allele = R, homozygous red fruit = RR

    Yellow fruit allele = r, yellow fruit = rr (since R is dominant over r, only rr can result in yellow fruit)

    RR x rr = Rr, Rr, Rr, Rr = 4Rr

    Genotype of offspring = 4Rr or 100% Rr

    Phenotype of the offspring = All (100%) red fruit since red fruit (R) is dominant over yellow fruit (r).

    I believe it would be Rr as the red is dominant over the yellow as they are the recessive gene creating the Rr.
