Osmosis can be defined as the movement of solvent from an area where it is in higher amount to an area where it is in lower amount via a semi permeable membrane.

This water will move from the outside environment to the inside of the cell. This will make the cell swell and the cell will gain water.

-The Paramecium is a unicellular organism that lives in pond water and feeds on mostly bacteria. They have small hair-like structures on their outer edges that are used for motion. They have a contractile vacuole which is also and adaptation.

-The Contractile Vacuole maintains the water pressure of the Paramecium by contracting and releasing water into the environment. This is special because without the contractile vacuole the paramecium wouldn't be able to live if the salt concentration became more in their environment rather than inside of them.
