Contrast the life cycle of the plant zea mays with the animal

c. elegans.

The plant zea mays (corn, maize) and the animal c. elegans have totally different life cycles, which is understandable considering the differences between them.

Zea mays life cycle starts with a seed. The seed starts to develop in the ground, make roots, and establish itself in the soil. Than it starts to grow above the surface. As the plant becomes bigger, it starts to produce flowers. The flowers are than pollinated. Once the flowers are pollinated, the seeds start to develop and grow. Once they are done growing, they fall on the ground, and the process continues.

The life cycle of c. elegans starts with the in utero development of the eggs. Than the eggs are laid and they go through the process of ex utero development. After this process is done, they hatch and start feeding. As they feed more and more, they also grow in size, and very quickly become adults.
