An element's atomic number is 5. How many protons would an atom of this element have?

    The atomic number of an element is also always the amount of protons in the atom. In this case the atomic number is 5, so there would be 5 protons. Lets say we have Carbon, with an atomic number of 6. Carbon would also have 6 protons.
