Motor proteins convert chemical energy into mechanical work by the hydrolysis of ATP.

Kinesin and dinein are motor proteins that use microtubule. Kinesin is responsible for anterograde movement, while dineins are capable of a retrograde sliding movement. Kinesin's most important function is spindle formation in mitotic and meiotic and chromosomes separation. Dineins drive intracellular transport.
