Although the Sun is much larger than the Moon, it does not exert as much gravitational pull

on the oceans as the Moon. The Moon, although smaller, has more influence on tides. What is

the best explanation for this?

A. The Sun is too far away from Earth to have any effect on tides,

B. The Sun is too far away from Earth to have as much influence as the closer Moon.

C. The extreme heat of the Sun affects its gravitational force.

D. The Moon is much colder than the Sun, which increases its gravitational force.

    The Sun, just like the Moon and the Earth, also has its own gravity which can affect the tides. Although the Sun is much larger than the Moon and has more gravity, it's also much further away, meaning its pull on the tides is less than half as strong as the Moon's. It still does have an effect, though.
