The cell cycle is divided into two main phases: interphase and mitotic phase.
Interphase is phase characterized by the the cell growth and DNA copy (replication). During this phase, the cell prepares for division, formation of two daughter cells (mitotic phase).
Mitotic phase is subdivided into four phases:
prophase, - nuclear envelope breaks down, condensed chromosomes are released metaphase - chromosomes are lined up, mitotic spindle is formed anaphase - the sister chromatids of each chromosomed move to the opposite ends of the cell telophase-final stage, nuclear envelope reforms
