Nasogastric tube is used for the purpose of carrying food and medicine from the nose to the stomach. The nasogastric tube passes through the pharynx, to the oesophagus and finally reaches into the stomach. The tube is inserted into the nasal cavity of the patient from where it passes down to the pharynx. After passing the pharynx the tube reaches the esophagus which is a muscular passageway through which the tube gets inserted into the stomach. Once the tube reaches the stomach it is secured into its place.
