    A neuron acts as an electrical device as it transmits the signals in the form of action potential from one neuron to another neuron.

    Two neurons communicate with each other at the synaptic junction where signals from the presynaptic axon terminal are transferred to the postsynaptic dendrite.

    The synapse, the spine protrusions of the dendrite receive a signal from the axon in the form neurotransmitters. This cause generation of the action potential which is transferred to the soma cell body of the neuron.

    From soma, the impulse travels through a long tubule structure called axon with nodes of Ranvier and reach the axon terminal.

    At axon terminal, the potential leads to the opening of the ion channels which leads to the release of the neurotransmitter. The neurotransmitter then binds to the ligand-receptor of the next dendrite and the process continues.
