What would happen to a food web if one species were to become extinct?

    The whole process is thrown out of order temporarily. It will cause some species to skyrocket in population, and others to plummet.

    For example, in a food web that contains snakes, grasshoppers, hawks if the snakes were to become extinct the amount of grasshoppers would increase because they have no predators and the population of hawks would decrease because they have no prey.
