Forensic entomology refers to the study of arthropods or insects in a criminal investigation. Right from the initial phases the insects are fascinated towards the disintegrating body and may lay eggs in it.
By examining the population of the insect and the forming larval phases, the forensic scientists can predict the PMI (postmortem index), the cause of the death, as well as any changes in the position of the corpse. The PMI is the time interval between the death and discovery of the corpse.
