The characteristics that support the argument that the kidney of the new species belongs to a vertebrate are:

    - The tubules inside are lined with epithelium.

    - It is stimulated by hormones.

    - It uses mechanisms of filtration and secretion.

    Explanation:

Kidneys are abdominal organs of the vertebrates, in charge of the filtration of the blood with excretory functions and the maintenance of the hydroelectrolytic balance.

The blood filtration process occurs in the nephron, formed by the glomerular capillary in contact with the Bowman's capsule, and which constitutes the basic unit of the kidney.

The renal tubules are a tubular system covered with simple cylindrical or cubic epithelium, which allows the reabsorption of water and electrolytes, in turn responsible for the secretion of waste substances. For this reason the kidney of vertebrates is considered a filtration and secretion system.

The kidney can respond to the effect of hormones, such as the antidiuretic hormone, which is able to regulate the reabsorption of water in the renal tubules.

It should be mentioned that Malpighi's tubules correspond to the excretory system of invertebrates, such as insects, and are not part of the vertebrate kidney.
