What role do red blood cells play in the human body? They protect against injury. They protect against disease-carrying microorganisms. They transport oxygen throughout the body. They aid in blood clotting.

    Red blood cells play a huge part in the human body

    Red blood cells transport oxygen throughout the body

    They are able to carry oxygen because of an important protein called haemoglobin.

    Not only does haemoglobin carry oxygen, but it's also responsible for the red color of our blood.

    If red blood cells didn't contain haemoglobin the cells wouldn't be able to do their job properly. If this happens we would slowly die
