Table salt is a compound made of sodium and chlorine. Could you separate the sodium from the chlorine by crushing the salt crystals? Explain.

    No, crushing salt will just make even smaller crystals.

    Yes you can separate it but it is very dangerous. The procedure is called the Down's Process. As the salt mixture melts, a misture of sodium and calcium is deposited on the cathode, and chlorine on the anode.
