How will the movement of water affect a cell if it is transfered from hypotonic solution to a hypertonic solution?

    The answer is: cell will shrink.

    In a hypotonic solution, the water concentration of the cell's cytoplasm is lower than that of the hypotonic solution. If a cell is exposed to a hypotonic solution, the water from the solution will enter the cell by the process called osmosis. But, water that enters the cytoplasm of the cell will make pressure on the cell membrane and cause the cell to swell. After a cell is transferred to a hypertonic solution, the water concentration of the cell's cytoplasm will be higher than that of the hypertonic solution. The aim is to balance water concentration on the inside and outside of the organism. So, the water will exit the cell and consequently it will shrink in size.
