An organism whose cells contain a nucleus surrounded by a membrane and whose DNA is bound together by proteins into chromosomes. Eukaryotic cells also contain other membrane-bound organelles such as mitochondria and the Golgi apparatus. All multicellular organisms are eukaryotes, including animals, plants and fungi.
