How dose temperature change in the troposphere differ from the stratosphere

The troposphere is the air at the surface of the earth up to round 10 km. The air here is warmer because it is warmed by heat given off by the earth. The higher you go, the further from the surface the air moves, the less heat there is to absorb and so the temperature drops and it becomes colder.

The stratosphere is composed of air 10 to 50 km. From 20km to 50 km up, the higher you go, the warmer it becomes! Ozone is concentrated in this part of the atmosphere and it absorbs ultra violet light from the sun. More light is absorbed at higher altitudes compared to the lower stratosphere so the temperature increases.
