Another lab value monitored routinely is the total red blood cell (RBC) count. A normal RBC count is typically 4.2-5.9 million/mm3. Having a low RBC count is called anemia. Predict the possible effects of having anemia, considering the functions of erythrocytes.

    The primary function of erythrocytes, RBCs, is the transport of oxygen to different parts of the body.

    If a person is anemic, they will feel fatigue and lethargy due to the low amount of oxygen in their muscles and also may feel dizzy due to reduced oxygen supply to the brain.
