Unlike toads, tortoises

    I'm guessing this is supposed to be a fill in the blank and if it is the answer could be tortoises are reptiles because they have shells and scales and don't grow up in stages like toads do.

    Unlike toads, tortoises have a hard outer shell to protect themselves during times of danger.
