A large reason for the Puritan Tiger Beetle (PTB) becoming threatened is habitat loss.
PTB's have a very specific habitat: eroding shore bluffs in a specific area of the Northeast US. Habitat loss due to development along these bluffs, and vegetation growing on them as a result, has destroyed much of this habitat.
