Why is the membrane filter technique useful for a sanitarian?

    Used to determine presence of fecal coliforms in water.

    Water is drawn thru thin filter.

    Bacteria are retained on the filter which is placed on suitable nutrient agar.

    Each bacterium that is trapped on the filter will develop into a colony.

    Count colonies growing.
