The structure of a long bone consist of the diaphysis, epiphysis, metaphysis and the epiphyseal plates. It is these epiphyseal plates that allow the bone to grow in length, Basically, epiphyseal plates are plates of cartilages that produce cartilage cells as the bone grows.
