How many total autosomes are present in a normal male or female karyotype? 22 or 44?

    Humans have 22 pairs of autosomes. Autosomes determine the proteins in the body that are not sex-related. The 23rd pair of chromosome is the sex chromosome, where in a female has 2 copies of X chromosome and a male has one X and one Y.
