The best response by the skin is to minimize the blood flow to the site. According to Dr. Anthony J. Mancini, a professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, in the blood there are proteins that creates clot and make a covering to protect the cut from foreign materials. Examples of these proteins are platelets and fibrin. This step happens within seconds immediately after you got a cut.
